Bogertophis subocularis (Trans-Pecos Ratsnake) is a nonvenomous colubrid native to the Chihuahuan Desert region. Primarily nocturnal and semi-fossorial, it feeds on small mammals, birds, and lizards. Encounters are most likely near rocky desert slopes, arid scrub, washes, and sometimes around human structures in its range (CA, MX, US — primarily TX and adjacent areas).
